Tag For Hate: The Fiddle Leaf Fig

The ubiquitous fiddle leaf fig, which you’ve seen in every. Single. Catalog. And. Magazine.

They’re darlings of the design world, appearing in countless pins, mags, blogs, Insta snaps, and, eventually, compost heaps across the world. The latter because NO ONE CAN GROW THESE. Have you tried? I bet you did, because they were (are?) uber-trendy.

What brought this to mind? A post on our Insta feed by Hilton Carter, in which Justina Blakeney, the founder of Jungalow–which is, like, all about houseplants–admitted that even SHE cannot keep a fiddle leaf fig alive.

Hilton can do it. Can you?

All power to those of you who can do it! We gave up a long time ago. If the urge strikes, we’re just going to go faux.

Mini Episode: The New Victorihemians

MiniEp_NewVictorihemians

The new what? In this segment from the June 2018 episode, Rob and J. own up to confused feelings about “The Natural Life” feature on page 116 of the Better Homes & Gardens June 2018 issue. Meet the forager family behind the Insta account Fox Meets Bear and decide for yourself if their style is 1980’s “Country Living,” an update on Victorian naturalism, trapped-in-the-70’s-Woodstock–or do we have it totally wrong? (J. provides a little corrective at the end of this mini episode.) By the end, we crack the code and determine that swingers, open relationships, sex dens and far away husbands are soooo gay pride. Suggested signature cocktail for this episode: a sparkling wine with a shot of an herbal aperitif, such as Aperol, St. Germain or Cap Corse, garnished with a shasta daisy.
